PREAMBLE
The programmes are designed as both professional and academic experience focusing on development issues, especially as these relate to women, children and the vulnerable groups, thereby catering for the diverse and pressing demand for professional practice in both public and private sectors of the developing nations. The overall objective of the programmes is to build appropriate skill and capacity for the understanding and analysis of a wide range of social problems and development issues. Thus, relevant desk officers in government agencies and non-governmental agencies; those who desire to train as (1) social workers/social welfare officers, and (2) gender development experts for academic institutions, government/private sector organizations and NGOs; and those willing to pursue academic careers in either Social Work or Gender and Development Studies are eligible for admission into any programmes.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work
Candidates for admission into the programme must be holders of:
(i) a bachelor’s degree not below third class honors in any discipline from a recognized University;
(ii) any approved equivalent professional qualifications (to ‘I’ above) recognized by the Senate of the Ekiti State University;
(iii) relevant professional qualifications such as HND Social Work, not lower than Upper Credit in other related disciplines and approved equivalent qualifications.
Postgraduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies
Admission into the Postgraduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies Programme is open to holders of:
(i) a bachelor’s degree not below third class honors in any discipline from a recognized University;
(ii) any approved equivalent professional qualifications to ( ‘I’ above) recognized by the Senate of the Ekiti State University;
(iii) relevant professional qualifications such as HND in Gender and Development Studies, other related disciplines and approved equivalent qualifications.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Gender and Development Studies
Candidates seeking admission into the Master of Science Degree in Gender and Development Studies must possess a minimum admission requirement of Second Class (Honors) Lower Division in relevant disciplines from a reputable University. While candidates with a background in Gender Studies, Development Studies and the Social Sciences (Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Economics, Demography and Population Studies) qualify for a direct admission, graduates of other fields must possess a Post Graduate Diploma of at least a credit grade (i.e. a minimum of 3.5) in Gender and Development Studies to be eligible for admission. A candidate having a Post Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies with a minimum grade of Upper Credit (i.e. a minimum GPA of 3.5) and a Third Class Honors in any discipline from EKSU or a recognized University may be considered for admission into the M.Sc. Programme.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Social Work
An applicant for admission to the Master of Science Degree in Social must possess a minimum admission requirement of a Second Class (Honors) Lower Division in relevant disciplines from a reputable University. Candidates with background in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Social Studies, Guidance and Counselling, Health Education, Mental Health, Psychiatry, Public/Community Health, Nursing, Law or any other related fields shall qualify for a direct admission into the MSW Programme while graduates of other fields must possess a Post Graduate Diploma of at least an Upper Credit grade (i.e. a minimum GPA of 3.5) in Social Work to be eligible for admission. A candidate with Postgraduate Diploma of at least a credit grade (i.e. a minimum GPA of 3.5) in Social Work and a Third Class Honors in any discipline from EKSU or a recognized University may be considered for admission into the MSW Programme.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Gender and Development Studies
Admission into the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Gender and Development Studies is open to candidates who must have passed the M.Sc. degree in Gender and Development Studies with a minimum weighted average score of ‘B’ or ‘60’ (B) either from Ekiti State University, or any other recognized University.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Social Work
Admission into the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme in Social Work is open to candidates who possess a Master’s degree with a minimum weighted average score of ‘B’ or ’60.0’ in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Gender and Development Studies, Public Health, Social Studies, Guidance and Counselling or any other related fields or disciplines from Ekiti State University, or any other reputable University.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
All candidates must possess a minimum of five credit passes at GCE/SSCE Ordinary Level (obtained at not more than two sittings) including English Language and at least a P7 or E8 in Mathematics.
METHOD OF APPLICATION
(a) An application Fee of Sixteen Thousand Naira only (N16, 000.00) is to be paid via E-transact into any of the following Banks:

Candidates should note that the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies must receive reports and officially dispatched transcripts of academic records of each applicant before his/her application could be processed
